What is a Health Coach?
If you had asked me a year ago what a health and wellness coach did I wouldn't have been able to properly answer this question! I mean I could take a few pretty good guesses but still would not have been right.
All of a sudden a year later I am one and I am loving it!
My goal in late 2012 was to take my health more serious. I was not happy with the way I felt in my clothes, with my body, and I knew I needed to make more of a commitment for a better lifestyle! I called a friend who had a gym and made a financial commitment and began my journey! Paying for something has always been a motivator for me! Best phone call I made!
Moving forward to 2014. At this point, I had continued my exercise commitment, however, my eating just wasn't the best. I also didn't like how sluggish I felt and how slow I was during some exercises. I knew I needed to make a nutrition change as well but couldn't commit to eating chicken and broccoli....all the time.... Ugh!
Finally, I made another commitment to myself to eat better. As you can tell this is now two years later so these changes don't happen overnight! I prepped my meals for the week every Sunday. My first meal prep session was actually quite humorous and I even cried! Let me remind you that a health coach is not a nutritionist but can support you on your wellness journey once you find a program that works for you!
By making these nutrition changes for myself, I saw a change in my body like I had never imagined! My energy levels were great, I was able to get up early for workouts before work, I was able to actually progress in my workouts, my sleep was restful, my stress levels were low, my face wasn't breaking out, and I was losing weight. Another aspect I didn't consider is how I wasn't getting sick as often (essential oils have helped as a preventative as well). Can you just sit for one minute and imagine your health and wellness goals and what it would feel like to achieve them? Amazing isn't it!
How often do you go to the doctor and how much do you spend on sickness? Do you feel you have the time to sit and talk with your doctor about alternative options? My answers were a lot, a whole lot, and no not really. No offense on any doctors, but they don't have the time to sit and talk with you for an hour about alternatives.
Throughout this process, I was able to find a passion for a career through my healthier lifestyle changes! I am a firm believer that if I have not experienced it or have been trained in something I am not the person to speak to! I would never sell something I have not tried myself if and did not believe in!
So what exactly do I do? Awesome question! To make it short, I help and support people on their path to wellness and achieving their health goals! Goals can be anything from losing 10 pounds, to decreasing stress, to improving nutrition. I am here to help clients find there inner wisdom, goals, and values and put them to work!
I also offer it in an empathetic way because I have a background in counseling.
In reality, everyone generally knows what they need to do but don't have the support to make it a consistent habit. I want to be able to lessen the statistics of this healthcare epidemic and at the same time help those live a live full of abundance, wellness, and purpose! Being proactive in your health is crazy important! No one can take that step but you!
